JONATHAN HENDERSON, FLUTE

Jonathan Henderson (b.1987) trained with Europe’s leading flute professors and has carved out a multifaceted performance career spanning from Australia to the Nordic countries. Between 2012 and 2019 he was principal flautist of the Estonian National Opera Orchestra. As guest principal, he has performed with the Turku and Tampere Philharmonic Orchestras in Finland, the Adelaide and Tasmanian Symphony Orchestras and the Opera Australia Orchestra. He has also been invited to perform with the Helsinki Philharmonic Orchestra, Nordic Symphony Orchestra, Australian Chamber Orchestra and Queensland Symphony Orchestra among others. Maintaining a special interest in chamber music, Jonathan is the founder and artistic director of Contra Concerts and flautist with the Australian Debussy Trio. From 2013-2016 he directed the New Theatre Ensemble in Estonia and from 2019-2022 performed as a member of the Southern Cross Soloists. After completing his early musical training at the Queensland Conservatorium with Gerhard Mallon and privately with Sally Walker, Jonathan continued his studies in Germany with Felix Renggli at the Hochschule für Musik Freiburg and in Switzerland with Jacques Zoon at the Haute École de Musique Genève. In 2018 he completed his Doctoral Studies (PhD) at the Estonian Academy of Music and Theatre.

SZU YU CHEN, PIANO

Szu Yu Chen is an experienced pianist specialising in ensemble performance and has continued her career as a solo pianist and chamber musician. She won the Geoffrey Parsons Award while studying at the Sydney Conservatorium of Music as a postgraduate accompaniment student learning from David Miller and Gerard Willems. She earned her Bachelor of Fine Arts from Taipei National University and completed her Master in Piano Performance at Peabody Conservatory, John Hopkins University. Szu Yu won several prizes and scholarships in both piano, solo flute solo and chamber music competitions. She performed in Taiwan, Australia, the United States, France, Germany and Italy. Szu Yu has also performed with many of Australia’s ensembles, including the Sydney Youth Orchestra and Sydney children choir. She is currently working at St.Andrew’s Cathedral School as school accompanist.
